Rice Crispy treats (St. Patricks Day Edition)

Updated: May 4, 2021

The easiest sweet treat in my opinion! Made from only 4 ingredients and whipped up in less than 5 minutes. Enjoy these delicious and soft rice crispy treats with your whole family!

Rice Crispy Treats as green clovers for St. Patricks Day, red hearts for St. Valentines or plain squares for every day!

Rice Krispy Treats - a universal treat for any occasion

Rice Krispy Treats can be made for any celebration or occasion. Dye them red (you can use freeze dried strawberries for flavor and natural color) for St. Valentines Day or leave them white and cut them in any shape. Drizzle different colored chocolate or candy melts over these treats and add sprinkles or other decoration to fit the color scheme of the party. They are a great addition to any party, Birthday celebration or even Baby shower!

Mixing in some marshmallows at the end keeps them in shape for extra marshmallow chunks in the treats!

Rice Krispie Treats

Ingredients for 18 pieces

5 cups mini marshmallows

5 cups rice krispies cereal

4 tbsp butter

1 tsp vanilla

food coloring, optional

white chocolate, optional

sprinkles, optional

INSTRUCTIONS

Step 1:

Start off with preparing a 9x13 inch baking pan with cooking spray or butter. In a large bowl combine 2/3 of the marshmallows with the butter and place it on a pot with boiling water to melt. If you do not want to have pieces of marshmallows in your Rice Krispie treats melt all the 5 cups of marshmallows.

Step 2:

Keep stirring the marshmallow butter mixture with a non-stick spatula (like a silicone spatula) until everything is melted. Turn off the heat and remove from the stove. Add about 1/4 tsp of food coloring if desired and stir it in. Then combine with the rest of the ingredients: Rice Krispies, rest of marshmallows and vanilla. Mix it until everything is well combined. Press it with a silicone spatula into the prepared baking pan and let cool for a few minutes.

Step 3:

If you want to cut out shapes use metal cookie cutters and grease them before cutting out the Rice Krispie treats. If you just want squares grease a knife and cut out the squares. Grease the cutter or knife before every use.

Step 4:

To add sprinkles you have to cover the treats with some white chocolate. Melt the chocolate in a heat proof bowl in the microwave for about 1 minute. Stir it until is melted completely. Fill it in a small piping bag and cut a tiny opening. Pipe some chocolate on the treats and immediately add the sprinkles. It is important to act fast so that the chocolate has not set before placing the sprinkles.

Enjoy!

**Pro Tips**

  • You can use any food coloring gel color you want, try red for Valentines Day!

  • Swap Rice Krispies for Lucky Charms or Cocoa Rice Krispies!
